What they say

His campaign says that as attorney general he put in place policies that drove crime to a 40-year low and helped cut sexual assaults by 25%.

“As Attorney General, Treg implemented policies that drove crime to a 40-year low and helped cut sexual assaults by 25%.”

What the record shows

The state's 2024 report says the overall crime rate fell 7% that year and burglaries were the fewest since at least 1974. Reported rapes fell 26% from 2018 to 2023, and in 2024 were 24% below 2018.

Why there is no assessment here

Whether crime hit a 40-year low is not established: we found no FBI table of Alaska's yearly crime rate back to 1985. No record we found ties the drop to his policies.

Limit: Crime counts are offenses reported to police. Many things besides prosecutors affect them.
