Adding agriculture to foreign-investment review
What they say
In the October 13 debate, Hinson said she had worked to give the agriculture secretary a seat in the federal body reviewing foreign transactions.
What the record shows ·
She was an original cosponsor of H.R.9456 in September2024, which proposed agriculture-secretary membership for specified agriculture transactions. Separately, section739 of Public Law119-37, signed November12, 2025, requires case-by-case participation for covered agriculture transactions, coordinated by the CFIUS chair and agriculture secretary.
Limit: The standalone2024 bill did not become law. The later law provides transaction-specific participation, not permanent membership over every foreign investment or a nationwide ban on all foreign farmland ownership. These records do not establish sole authorship.
