Immigration enforcement: body cameras and Iowa's 2018 law
What they say
In the October 7 debate, Hinson said she supported funding so immigration agents have body cameras, and that in the Iowa House she supported the law that lets Iowa police work with ICE.
“that's exactly why I've supported funding to make sure they do have body cameras”
What the record shows ·
On January 22, 2026 she voted yes when the House passed H.R. 7147, the 2026 Homeland Security funding bill, which set aside $20 million for body cameras for agents and officers enforcing immigration law. The final version, with the same $20 million, became law on April 30, 2026 (Public Law 119-86) after a House voice vote. In the Iowa House on April 3, 2018, she voted for Senate File 481, which passed 55-45 and was signed April 10, 2018. It makes Iowa law enforcement agencies honor ICE detainer requests and bars cities and counties from policies that discourage enforcing immigration law.
Limit: The final 2026 vote was by voice, so it records no names. She did not name the 2018 bill; this one fits what she described.
