Pediatric-cancer funding proposals and vote
What they say
In the October13 debate, Turek said he had worked on a state appropriation for cancer coverage.
What the record shows ·
Turek and Austin Baeth introduced H.F.489 in February2025 to fund pediatric-cancer research. Turek later voted for S.F.2480 on May2, 2026. That separate signed law directs the first $3 million in specified nicotine-tax receipts to pediatric-cancer research and related purposes each year beginning July2027.
Limit: H.F.489 was a proposal, not the enacted funding vehicle. S.F.2480 takes effect January2027, and its cancer appropriation begins July2027. A future appropriation does not establish that a lab has received funds, and this is separate from firefighter retirement benefits. The debate did not identify which cancer-funding measure he meant.
