His votes on AI chatbots and children
What they say
In the October 7 KOIN 6 debate, Braun said his opponent described a vote that never happened and a nonexistent bill on AI and children. He cited a bipartisan bill to prevent AI exploitation of children that passed both chambers unanimously.
What the record shows ·
In 2026, Braun voted Nay on HB 2225 (Senate 43–5, March 6) and SB 5984 (Senate 38–11, February 12). HB 2225 requires AI companion chatbot operators to take reasonable measures against sexually explicit content or sexually suggestive dialogue with minors when they know a user is a minor or the chatbot targets minors. It takes effect January 1, 2027. He voted Yea on SB 5105, a separate bill addressing fabricated depictions of minors (Senate 49–0; House 93–0).
Limit: SB 5105 fits his unanimous-bill account. The chatbot bills also cover disclosure, manipulative design and suicide protocols; reasonable safeguards do not guarantee results. Votes establish neither his reasons nor his opponent's campaign-donation allegation.
