Her campaign says she led the charge on legislation to grant hundreds of thousands of acres of federal land to the University of Alaska, and that thanks to her it was incorporated into the Fiscal Year 2023 Consolidated Appropriations Act and signed into law.

She introduced H.R. 9496, the Alaska Land Conveyances and Trails Act, on December 12, 2022. Its University of Alaska program is in section 302 of Division DD of the Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2023, Public Law 117-328, signed December 29, 2022: up to 500,000 acres of State-selected land identified, of which not more than 360,000 acres may be conveyed to the University. She voted Yea on that act on December 23, 2022 (House roll call 549). The same program had been before the Senate since April 14, 2021 as S. 1128, the University of Alaska Fiscal Foundation Act, sponsored by Senator Lisa Murkowski with Dan S. Sullivan as an original cosponsor.

Limit: The provision she names became law in the act she names, and she voted for it. “Thanks to Mary” says she caused that, and the record cannot show it: her bill was introduced seventeen days before the act was signed and was never acted on, while the same program had been in the Senate for twenty months.
