Graduation rates as a trustee
What they say
In the October 6 KGET debate, Villegas said the school board he serves on achieved real results, including higher graduation rates.
What the record shows
Visalia Unified's four-year graduation rate was 90.8% for the class of 2021, the last before he joined the board in December 2021, and 95.5% for the class of 2025, the latest. In between it fell to 90.4% for the class of 2023. The statewide rate rose from 83.6% to 87.5% over the same years.
Limit: The district's rate did rise while he served, as rates rose statewide. The data cannot show what part the board, or he, played.
