Helene recovery: her votes in Raleigh
What they say
Her statement on winning the nomination says she has fought for Henderson County in Raleigh and will work to make sure the region has the resources it needs to keep recovering from Hurricane Helene.
“It has been an incredible honor to fight for Henderson County in Raleigh, and I will take that fight to Washington and work every single day to make life more affordable for working families, improve community safety, support our farmers, and ensure we have the resources we need to continue to recover from Hurricane Helene.”
What the record shows ·
She voted for each of the five Helene relief acts titled Disaster Recovery Act on its final House vote: the Disaster Recovery Act of 2024 (113 to 0) and its Part II (108 to 0) in October 2024; Part III, which also moved appointment of the State Board of Elections from the governor to the state auditor, on adoption (63 to 46) and on overriding the governor's veto (72 to 46); and the 2025 acts Part I (115 to 1) and Part II (109 to 0). She is listed as a sponsor of the 2025 Part I. She is a primary sponsor of House Bill 251, which became Session Law 2025-18; it makes denying state disaster aid over politics a crime and relaxes some building rules for Helene-damaged property. She is vice chair of the House Select Committee on Helene Recovery. She also voted for the 2026 budget, which puts $706 million into the Helene recovery fund (88 to 21 on final reading), and for a September 2025 act with more disaster money, including Helene repairs at Warren Wilson College and UNC Asheville (105 to 4).
Limit: Most of these passed with nearly every member voting yes, so her votes show direction, not leadership. The third act paired relief with changes to state officials' powers, and Democrats voted against it.
