Tax treatment of home savings
What they say
In the October 14 debate, Perry said he had a bill to let people save tax-free for a home down payment.
What the record shows
Perry introduced H.R. 9480 on June 25, 2026. It proposes deductible home-savings contributions, capped annually at $10,000 individually or $20,000 jointly, and tax-free qualified housing withdrawals. It was referred to Ways and Means; the October 22 record lists no law.
Limit: The proposal is not a current tax benefit. House-price effects and his caucus role were not assessed.
