His campaign says that as a federal prosecutor he dismantled the district's largest transnational human-smuggling ring. A U.S. Attorney's release of July 30, 2024 names him as the prosecutor of a smuggling ring that moved 2,459 migrants and laundered $2.9 million. Its two leaders were ordered to serve 240 months in federal prison. The release says the judge agreed it was one of the largest alien smuggling takedowns the district had seen in recent history. Limit: The release says one of the largest in recent history, not the largest. The FBI led the investigation with help from other agencies; he prosecuted the case. It was read from an archived copy because justice.gov sent a bot-check page.
