What they say

In an op-ed his House office posted in July 2026, he calls his vote to repeal the 2002 authorization for force in Iraq one of the proudest of his first year in Congress.

“one of the proudest votes I took in my first year in Congress was to repeal the 2002 authorization for use of military force in Iraq”

What the record shows · Dec 18, 2025

On September 10, 2025 he voted Aye on an amendment to repeal the 1991 and 2002 Iraq authorizations, a separate vote on the repeal alone (Roll Call 244). It passed 261 to 167, with 49 Republicans voting yes. He then voted for the House defense bill that carried it (Roll Call 262). The repeal became law in the final defense act, S. 1071, which he voted for on December 10 (Roll Call 320, 312 to 112). Signed December 18, 2025 as Public Law 119-60, its section 8370 repeals both authorizations.

Limit: He voted for the repeal on its own and in the final defense act. His line that it was the first such repeal in his lifetime was not checked.
