Issue record
In short
Amish Shah's campaign would fight for Arizona's Colorado River share, fund drought resilience and stop data centers in the district. Jay Feely's campaign names "protecting our water" a priority without saying how. Monica Alponte's campaign lists no water position on the pages checked. Shah voted for the river drought plan and a water fund, as nearly every state House member did, and for wider data center tax breaks that did not decide where they go.

Evidence timeline
campaign position
As a state lawmaker he voted in 2021 to widen Arizona's tax breaks for data center equipment; neither that law nor a 2023 follow-up decided where data centers could be built.
His campaign says he will work to stop data centers from being built in the district. In 2021 he voted for HB 2649, which widened Arizona's tax breaks for computer data centers to cover the installation, repair and maintenance of their equipment. It passed the House 41-17, then 46-13 on final passage, and became law. In 2023 he voted for SB 1274, which changed the refund rules in that law; it passed 47-10. Limit: Neither bill decided where data centers could be built. His pledge is about the district and what he would do in Congress.
official action
In 2019 he voted for both measures letting Arizona join the Colorado River drought plan, and in 2022 for a $1 billion water fund; nearly every House member voted the same way.
His campaign says that in Congress he will fight for Arizona's fair share of the Colorado River and bring federal money to help communities withstand drought. On January 31, 2019 he voted for both measures that let Arizona sign the Colorado River Drought Contingency Plan. SJR 1001 authorized the agreements and passed the House 60-0. SB 1227 set up a fund to pay Arizona water users to leave Colorado River water in Lake Mead, to lower the chance of cuts to the state's share; it passed 59-0. Both were signed that day. In 2022 he voted for SB 1740, which set aside $1 billion over three years for a new long-term water augmentation fund. It passed the House 48-1 and became law. The 2023 budget, which he voted against, cut $143.8 million from the fund's second payment. Limit: Nearly every House member voted the same way on all three. Arizona's share of the river comes from a Supreme Court decree, not from these state votes.
