Evidence timeline
official action
He voted for a 2026 House bill barring members from buying stocks, which is not law, and cosponsors two bills on member stock ownership that have had no vote.
His campaign says he supports banning members of Congress from trading stocks. On July 22, 2026 he voted for the Stop Insider Trading Act (H.R. 7008), which would bar members and their spouses and dependent children from buying stocks and require public notice before a sale. He was one of 13 Democrats to vote yes; it passed 232-198. As passed, it also requires voters to show photo ID in federal elections. The Senate fell short of the votes to take it up on September 30, 2026. He also cosponsors two bills that have had no vote: the Restore Trust in Congress Act (H.R. 5106), which would bar members and their families from owning or trading stocks, and the TRUST in Congress Act (H.R. 396), which would require a blind trust. Limit: The bill he voted for bans buying stocks, not owning them, and is not law. Just before it, he voted with his party for a motion to send it back to committee, which failed 211-218.
official action
He signed the discharge petition to force a House vote on the Epstein files bill and voted for it when it passed 427-1 in November 2025; it became law.
His campaign says he has fought to release the Epstein files. He signed the discharge petition to force a House vote on the Epstein Files Transparency Act on September 2, 2025. The Clerk lists him as its 103rd signer and shows no withdrawal; the petition reached 218 signatures on November 12. When the bill (H.R. 4405) came up, he voted Aye. It passed 427-1 on November 18, 2025 and became law the next day. He is not listed as a cosponsor. Limit: The final vote was nearly unanimous. The petition shows more, though most House Democrats signed it too.
