Issue record
In short
Paige Cognetti's campaign backs a congressional stock-trading ban, says it takes no corporate PAC money, and says she owns no individual stocks. Rob Bresnahan's campaign says members should never be allowed to trade stocks. Cognetti's disclosure lists no individual stock; whether $1,000 from a law firm's PAC counts as corporate is not settled. Bresnahan reported over 600 legal stock and option trades in 2025 and voted for a House-passed stock-buying ban that is not law.
Campaign positions
Would ban stock trading by members of Congress, says she owns no individual stocks, and says her campaign takes no corporate PAC money. Would also bar former members from lobbying and sitting members from corporate boards.
Says members of Congress should never be allowed to trade their own stocks and profit from what they learn in office.
Evidence timeline
official action
Her August 2026 House disclosure lists bank accounts, mutual and retirement funds and her husband's private company, and no individual stock.
She says she owns no individual stocks and will not buy or trade them if elected. Her House candidate disclosure, filed August 13, 2026 and covering January 2025 to July 14, 2026, lists bank and money-market accounts, mutual and retirement funds, and her husband's private company, Caravia Fresh Foods. It lists no individual stock. Limit: The report covers holdings through July 14, 2026. Her promise about the future cannot be checked yet. Her husband's stake in a private business is not a traded stock.
campaign position
His 2025 reports list over 600 stock and option trades and say advisers decided from August; 2026 reports list only government bond buys, and his 2025 annual report lists individual stocks.
He says members of Congress should never be allowed to trade their own stocks, a belief he says predates his time in office. His 18 stock-trade reports for 2025 list more than 600 trades in individual stocks and options, from January to December 11, 2025. From August 2025 the reports say advisers make the decisions and he has no role. His three 2026 reports list only purchases of government bonds and Treasury notes. His 2025 annual report, filed August 13, 2026, still lists individual stocks among his assets. Limit: He is talking about what the law should allow. Members could legally trade, and these trades come from his own reports. The count is a hand count of those reports.
official action
He filed his own trading ban in 2025, cosponsored another, signed a discharge petition, and voted for the Stop Insider Trading Act the House passed in July 2026.
His office says he has long pushed to ban stock trading by members of Congress, a belief he says he has held since before taking office. He introduced H.R. 3182 on May 5, 2025 to bar members and spouses from trading stock; it drew no cosponsors and has not moved. He cosponsored Rep. Chip Roy's ban, H.R. 5106, in September 2025. On December 10, 2025 he signed the discharge petition to force a vote on H.R. 1908, which would ban members from owning stock, not only trading it. He is an original cosponsor of the Stop Insider Trading Act, H.R. 7008, and voted for it when it passed the House 232-198 on July 22, 2026. The Senate fell short of the 60 votes needed to take it up on September 30. Limit: The bill that passed, H.R. 7008, bars buying new stocks; members could keep what they own and sell after 7 to 14 days' public notice. His own trading is on the next card.
campaign position
Her campaign took $1,000 from a corporation-connected law-firm PAC in June 2026, with no refund through June 30. The FEC category may differ from her pledge's meaning.
She says her campaign takes no money from corporate PACs. Through June 30, 2026 her campaign took $429,599 from other political committees. One $1,000 contribution, on June 18, 2026, came from the Duane Morris Government Committee, a law firm's PAC that the FEC records as connected to a corporation. No refund of it appears through June 30. Why there is no verdict: Whether a law firm's PAC is the kind of corporate PAC she means, and whether the $1,000 was returned after June 30, the filings so far do not say. Her October report, due October 15, will show any refund. Limit: It is one $1,000 contribution among her receipts from committees. The FEC's label for the donor is not necessarily how the campaign classes it.
