The Build Now Act
What they say
In the October 7 KOIN 6 debate, Gluesenkamp Perez named her Build Now Act as a way to clear the permitting process so building is easier. Later, listing her work, she spoke of using federal housing money as a carrot for cities and counties to free up permitting and build more housing.
What the record shows ·
Rep. Lisa McClain introduced the Build Now Act (H.R. 6363) on December 2, 2025, with Rep. Jim Himes as original cosponsor; Gluesenkamp Perez joined as a cosponsor on January 30, 2026. Its text became section 213 of the 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act (Public Law 119-101), which became law without the President's signature on July 11, 2026. It changes the community development block grants that cities and urban counties get: places whose housing growth improves at or above the median get a bonus, and those below it lose 10 percent. She voted for the final House version on June 23, 2026 (Roll Call 224).
Limit: Congress lists her as a cosponsor, not the sponsor; the site counts both. The law does not change permitting rules itself. It ties grant money to housing growth, starting in the third full fiscal year after it passed.
