Puppy mills, cat declawing and kangaroo parts
What they say
His campaign says that as a state representative he led efforts to crack down on puppy mills, end cat declawing and halt the sale of kangaroo parts.
“As a State Representative, Dr. Shah led efforts to crack down on puppy mills, end the unwarranted mutilation of cats through declawing”
What the record shows ·
He was prime sponsor of a bill to ban cat declawing in every year from 2020 to 2024, six in all; one cleared a committee 10-3 in 2022. He was prime sponsor five times, 2020 to 2024, of a bill repealing the state law that stops cities banning pet-store sales based on where dogs and cats come from. In 2023 he alone introduced a bill making it a misdemeanor to sell kangaroo parts in Arizona. None became law.
Limit: He led these bills in the sense of introducing them, again and again. None passed, so none changed the law. The kangaroo bill covered Arizona only, not the whole country as the campaign's wording suggests.
