“In the State House, Amish cut taxes for middle-class families”
What the record shows ·
In 2021 he voted for SB 1844, which became law and cut state income tax for families saving for college (529 accounts) or for a disabled family member (ABLE accounts). It passed the House 41-17; all 17 No votes were Democrats. He voted No on the main tax bills of the 2019, 2021, 2022 and 2023 budgets, including the 2019 law that created a $100 credit for each child under 17 and the 2023 law that gave families a $250 rebate for each child. In 2020 he voted Yes on a bill updating the state's link to the federal tax code, which passed 60-0. No tax-cut bill he sponsored became law.
Why there is no assessment here
Which bill he means is not established: the campaign names none, and no statement by Shah naming one was found. He voted for one 2021 tax cut for families, against most of his party, but against four budget tax bills, two of which gave families credits or rebates for children.
Limit: A No on a whole tax bill can be a vote against other parts of it; this card does not test why he voted as he did. Whether a 529 or ABLE deduction is a middle-class tax cut is a judgment the record cannot make.
