“He has also led to expand veteran education benefits”

What the record shows · Jan 2, 2025

He sponsored H.R. 8371, the House's Senator Elizabeth Dole veterans act, which passed the House 389 to 9 on November 18, 2024 (Roll Call 466). The Senate put the same package into its own bill, S. 141, which the House passed 382 to 12 on December 16 with his Yea (Roll Call 504); it became Public Law 118-210 on January 2, 2025. All 75 of the law's section titles match his House bill, one with a one-word change. Its education sections set up a VA high-technology training program for up to 4,000 veterans a year, for courses that start by September 30, 2027 (section 212), pay the full housing stipend in a final semester (section 208), and end the time limit on the Fry Scholarship for surviving spouses (section 202). His earlier VET-TEC Authorization Act (H.R. 1669) would have run a larger program, up to 6,000 a year through fiscal 2028; it passed the House 409 to 9 in May 2023 and stopped in the Senate. His VETS Opportunity Act (H.R. 1458), on GI Bill repayments and which independent study programs the benefits cover, passed the House by voice vote in February 2026 and awaits the Senate.

Limit: The law was enacted under the Senate's bill number, sponsored by Senator Moran, but its section titles match the House bill he sponsored. The committee chairman, Mike Bost, managed it on the floor, so how much of the drafting was his is not shown.
