Her first term: five measures passed, one signed into law
What they say
Her campaign says that in her first term she secured passage of five key pieces of legislation, including a bill targeting fentanyl trafficking that was signed into law.
“securing the passage of five key pieces of legislation, including the first bill in nearly 20 years from her community to be signed into law, targeting fentanyl trafficking”
What the record shows ·
Five measures she sponsored passed the House in the 118th Congress: H.R. 1076 (402 to 2, May 22, 2023), H.Res. 683 on Mexico's water deliveries (voice vote, November 28, 2023), H.Res. 1065 on immigration policy (226 to 193, March 12, 2024), the HUD Transparency Act (voice vote, July 22, 2024) and the Disabled Veterans Housing Support Act (voice vote, December 4, 2024). H.R. 1076 was signed on September 13, 2024 as Public Law 118-79. It orders the Comptroller General to study how the trafficking of synthetic drugs, including fentanyl, is financed.
Limit: Passage here means the House. Only H.R. 1076 became law that term, and two of the five are House resolutions, which carry no force of law. The fentanyl law orders a study rather than new enforcement. Before hers, the last bill by a 15th District member to become law was signed in July 2005.
